Received his doctoral degree of veterinary medicine in 1972 and his Ph.D. in 1982 from the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. 

His Ph.D. thesis was concerned to the chronic effect of deoxynivalenol (vomitoxin) in fattening pigs. His research career began in 1968 at the Institute of Medical Chemistry investigating toxicological cases from field outbreaks of pigs and ruminants as well as experiments regarding effects of antibiotics and their residues in animal tissues. 

In 1975 he changed his position as assistant professor to the Medical Clinic for Ruminants and Swine Diseases.  Furthermore he dealt with the influence of different mycotoxins in farm animals on the field. In 1992 he received the full professorship and headed the clinic above mentioned. 

He authored more than 225 articles in national and international scientific journals, and was co-author of various books on clinical examination of farm and pet animals. More than 500 oral presentations on the occasion of national and international congresses and seminars completed his scientific work. 

Since 1995 he was Head of the Austrian Board of Swine Specialists. As study dean from 2000-2005 he was leading a team who developed a new curriculum. 

After retirement in 2005 he is consulting feed and pharmaceutical companies where his focus lies on the improvement of the health status of swine and dairy herds in European (Germany, Switzerland, Germany) and Asian countries (China, Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan), Russia, Belarus and Baltic countries.

After graduation I worked in the largest swine practice in the Netherlands, Lintjeshof in Roermond-Nederweert as a veterinarian for food-producing animals. 

In 2006 I joined Boehringer Ingelheim The Netherlands as a Technical service manager Swine. In this role I was responsible for the scientific background behind the swine vaccine portofolio of BI, 2nd opinions on swine farms, performing field trials, launching 5 swine vaccines on the Dutch market and participate in several (international) advisory boards, with technical and marketing focus. 

Since September 2019 I joined MSD AH The Netherlands as swine vet, and technical responsible for successful launch of a new enteric vaccine. Nowadays I live in Vught with my wife and 2 children.

Since the end of 2016 she is director of the Field Station for Epidemiology, Bakum, University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover. The Field Station for Epidemiology is a diagnostic institute for swine in a swine dense region in the north-western part of Germany. Isabel Hennig-Pauka is involved in teaching and clinical research on swine farms and in the lab.
